Mental health awareness week 2023
For this year's mental health awareness week we painted a mural in our community on the year's theme of anxiety. We wanted to create an uplifting piece of artwork that raises awareness for mental health and anxiety, in a calming and supportive way. Normalising it's ok to not feel 100% all the time. We used a QR code on the wall, this gives important information on what to do when you are feeling anxious and has the donation page for Thurrock and Brentwood Mind. The mural shows a person walking, coming from the darkness into the light. It was important for us to show the contrast with the light, depicting ups and downs with mental health, and showing clearly that there is always light at the end of the tunnel. We wanted to show nature in the mural as we know going outside really makes a difference with anxiety and helps clear your head, similar with the dog, pets can also help many people when they are feeling lost or down. There is also a subtle head shape in the rocks, linking the mural to mind and showing clarity and the end of the journey. We wanted to have 'It's ok to feel lost sometimes' on the mural, to help normalise the low moments and to give people driving or walking by a supportive message.
